Postdocs

Jessica Talbot

Postdoctoral Researcher

I am a postdoctoral researcher, funded by The Academy of Medical Sciences, who is currently investigating the neural basis of schema formation in human memory, using electroencephalography (EEG). Prior to this, I completed my PhD at the University of Rome, where I attempted to shed light into the neurocognitive mechanisms underpinning enhancements in autobiographical remembering and episodic foresight, using techniques such as transcranial magnetic stimulation.

Amrita Benoy

Postdoctoral Researcher

I am a postdoctoral researcher, investigating the role of novelty and prior knowledge on human memory formation. I completed my PhD at the National University of Singapore where I investigated neuromodulatory mechanisms influencing synaptic plasticity in the CA2 subfield of the rodent hippocampus. Prior to my current role, I was a postdoctoral research associate at Newcastle University, UK.

Postgraduate Students

Cristina Valera Chacon

Postgraduate Researcher

I am a PhD candidate in cognitive neuroscience. I am interested in memory and ageing. Currently I am working in a project involving schema formation and the effect of prior knowledge and novelty in memory.

On my time off I enjoy exercising and baking!

Robert Henderson

Postgraduate Researcher

Having recently graduated from Edge Hill University with a degree in Computer Science with Games Programming, I am currently involved in a project which explores how prior knowledge and experience can affect our current memory and information seeking, using a Virtual Reality environment.

Matthew Gordon

Postgraduate Researcher

I have just graduated from Edge Hill University with honours in Computer Science Games Programming. I am currently working on a project that involves exploring prior knowledge effects on memory and cognitive ability using Minecraft.

Ellie Williamson

Postgraduate Researcher

Having recently graduated from Liverpool John Moores University after completing my MSc in Brain and Behaviour, I am involved in supporting the team at Edge Hill with their ongoing research into spatial memory, prior knowledge and schemas. My undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations used measures like electrocardiogram (ECG), skin conductance and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to investigate face perception. My studies have led to me to have a particular interest in memory research, and I am looking to complete a PhD and pursue a career in this field.

Digital Marketing Manager and Research Assistant

Zahra Suriya

Digital Marketing Manager

I am a first year Graduate Entry Medical Student at the Three Counties Medical School. I recently completed a BSc (Hons) in Psychology at Edge Hill University, where my dissertation explored how prior knowledge and memory influence spatial navigation within a Virtual Reality environment.

I design, develop, and maintain the Tse Laboratory websites, and create promotional materials such as posters, banners, and social media reels. I’m passionate about using digital media to make neuroscience research more accessible.

Juris Savostijanovs

Research Assistant

Converting and programming in a spacial-decision making task focusing on examining consistent and inconsistent schemas in humans.

Undergraduate Students

Abbie Ward

Research Intern

I am a current second year BSc Psychology student at Edge Hill University. My interest in Like Yesterday delves from being a dancer since I was three where I explored many styles, workshops and performances until I landed on my preferred style contemporary. I found the art to be a way to express my interpretations of life and build upon my own learning. This experience provides an insider level of understanding into a dancers intention. While my degree has provided a starting point to which this project allows me to build upon my knowledge of behaviour and experience. My role has me working as an intern on this project.

Alumni

Basit Kareem

Former Undergraduate Student (Internship)

Xiana Fowles

Former Postgraduate Researcher

Currently exploring the effects of prior knowledge on learning and memory, and how cognitive decline may affect this relationship.

Also… avid dog lover.

Arron Wilson

Former Postgraduate Researcher

My current research is looking into if people with dementia have a differing ability to learn and remember information related to spatial mapping.

Bonne Holland

Former Dissertation Student

I am a current 3rd year undergraduate student who is looking at how prior knowledge can affect memory and cognitive ability with the use of Minecraft as my dissertation project! This combines both my love for studying psychology and playing video games together.

Katie Hughes

Former Dissertation Student

I am currently a third year BSc Educational Psychology student who is very excited to investigate how the use of Minecraft can align with memory tasks. Younger me would be mind-blown with this opportunity!

Ged Brennan

Former Dissertation Student

I’m a third-year undergraduate student taking part in the dissertation project looking at how prior knowledge can affect memory and cognitive ability with the use of Minecraft. I am someone who loves to play games and also psychology, my interest in this topic is brought forth by being able to emulate conditions in humans that we wouldn’t be able to outside of simulations such as games.

Hannah Birkett

Former Undergraduate Student (Internship)

I am a second year BSc Psychology undergraduate. I am currently taking part in an internship project that is researching how prior knowledge facilitates new learning and memory in middle-aged and elderly populations.

Millie Burns

Former Undergraduate Student (Internship)

I am a second-year BSc psychology student studying at Edge Hill University, where I am an intern researching the effects of prior knowledge on new learning and memory in middle-aged and elderly populations. A placement working with elderly people (some with dementia) sparked my interest in this area.
